The World’s most expensive Superyachts and the billionaires who own them

With the Monaco Yacht Show taking place at the end of this month, here is a list of 2014’s 10 most expensive superyachts and the Billionaires who own them, according to Wealth-X. The list is dominated by Middle Eastern billionaires, with six out of 10 yachts owned by magnates from the UAE, Qatar and Oman.

Valued at $1 billion, Eclipse owned by Russian businessman Roman Abramovich tops the Wealth‐X list. The 536 foot-long yacht was launched in 2010 and until last year had the distinction of being the world’s longest superyacht.

In second is Azzam, the 590 foot-long yacht owned by Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and the ruler of Abu Dhabi. Azzam sailed into second place with $600 million price tag.

Landing in third spot is Topaz, the 482 foot-long yacht valued at $520 million and owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is another member of the Abu Dhabi Royal family. Launched in 2012, Topaz was built in the same shipyard as Azzam in Bremen, Germany by Lürssen Yachts.

Only three vessels owned by Russian billionaires appear on the list and one of them is Andrey Melnichenko. With a net worth of $12.5 billion, his yacht “A” takes fourth place on the list and is priced at $390 million.

Yuri Scheffler’s super yacht Serene, a 440 foot-long personal yacht of the Russian vodka titan, was chartered by Bill Gates and his family for $5 million a week. Oddly enough, Yuri is worth a total of $1.2 billion while Bill Gates has an estimated net worth of $76 billion.

Abdulla HHamad Al Futtaim is the fourth Emirati on the list with his $320 superyacht Radiant.

And the last entry for UAE Billionaires comes with the magnificent Dubai, owned by Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, and constitutional monarch of Dubai.

The Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said Al Said, is a close number eight with his luxury yacht Al Said, which carries a price tag of $300 million.

Only one American billionaire’s yacht made the list, David Geffen, the producer, film studio executive, and entertainment industry tycoon is worth an estimated $6.3 billion. His superyacht, Pelorus put him back a reported $300 million.

11 of 11
Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber bin Muhammad Al Thani, Qatar’s former Prime Minister (April 2007-June 2013), and former foreign minister owns the luxury motor-boat Al Mirqab. The 436 foot-long vessel is worth a total of $250 and comes in tenth place on this year’s superyacht list.
